Scrutiny and Strategic Review

The Assembly has been responsible for scrutinising Advantage West Midlands within the framework of the Regional Economic Strategy. Historically, this role was carried out in a number of ways with the main tool being in depth scrutiny reviews of specific areas of activity.

In addition it had been recognised that the Assembly was in an ideal position to examine wider issues of regional importance. These strategic reviews were carried out within the framework of the Regional Concordat and examined how regional bodies were working collectively to address key issues for the Region.

The process was managed by the Strategic Review Group and carried out in accordance with the Scrutiny and Strategic Review agreed Protocol between West Midlands Regional Assembly, Advantage West Midlands and Government Office for the West Midlands.

As a consequence of Parliament's decision to establish Regional Select Committees, and publication of the Government's response to the Review of Sub-National Economic Development and Regeneration (the SNR), no further scrutiny review activity will be undertaken.
