Rural Affairs

While the West Midlands is often thought of as an industrial and urban region, some 80% of its area, in which 20% of its population lives, is rural. These rural areas vary greatly in character and in the degree and nature of action they require in order to create stable, sustainable and attractive communities.

The West Midlands Rural Affairs Forum brings together rural stakeholders from the region to inform and monitor the local delivery of policy in rural areas. It acts as an independent advisor to the Assembly on rural matters. The key issues include rural renaissance and regeneration, rural services, housing and transport.

The Rural Affairs Forum has it's own website which can be accessed by clicking below:

  • The method of working.
  • Papers and minutes from previous meetings.

The West Midlands Regional Assembly also has a Rural Affairs Portfolio. Our current Portfolio Holder for Rural Affairs is Cllr Beris Williams (Herefordshire Council). The role description for the Rural Affairs Portfolio Holder can be viewed. If you wish to contact the portfolio holder please email Sara Roberts
