Memorandum of Understanding

Stronger cross-border collaboration between Central Wales and the West Midlands should result from a new landmark agreement between the West Midlands Regional Assembly and the Welsh Assembly Government which was launched in March 2007.

Called the ‘Central Wales – West Midlands Memorandum of Understanding on Cross-Border Collaboration, the document was signed by Cllr David Smith, Chairman of the West Midlands Regional Assembly and Carwyn Jones Minister for Environment, Planning and the Countryside at the Welsh Assembly Government.

The Memorandum of Understanding will act as a commitment to share information on policy and service development affecting border communities. This includes consulting each other on changes in policy which may impact on these communities and finding opportunities for joint working to benefit local people.

Welsh - English Border Strategic Regeneration Programme

Summary November 2009

Since the cross-border Memorandum of Understanding was signed in 2007 between the Welsh Assembly Government and the West Midlands Regional Assembly, over 60 organisations have also committed themselves to improved cross border dialogue and co-operation.

The Welsh-English Border Strategic Regeneration Programme represents an opportunity to put flesh on the bare bones of this co-operative approach, leading to real economic, environmental and social improvements for the benefit of the people who live in the border area and beyond. We very much hope that you will want to join with us in this exciting programme of regeneration. Click here for full programme.
