On 12 March 2010 Lord McKenzie, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG), wrote to the Chairman of the Assembly advising that, following detailed consideration of the RSS process to date, CLG has decided that further work is required before the Secretary of State can publish his Proposed Changes. In his letter Lord McKenzie advised that CLG hopes to be in a position to publish the Proposed Changes by July 2010.

In view of the winding up of the Regional Assembly on 31st March 2010, the Assembly has written to all local planning authorities to set out the position in respect of the WMRSS Phase Two Revision. This followed on from discussions with the Government Office for the West Midlands (GOWM), involving officers from both the Assembly and Advantage West Midlands. This letter can be accessed here.

Background

The Panel Report on the WMRSS Phase Two Revision Examination in Public (EiP) was published by Government Office for West Midlands on 28 September 2009. Please follow the link to access the Panel Report and accompanying Annexes. A press release has been published outlining the Assembly's initial position. For further information please view GOWM's website directly.

Following comments received in relation to the Panel Report a small number of issues have been considered further by the Panel. In the light of this, the Panel has issued a short addendum which should be read in conjunction with the Panel Report. The addendum (revised version, 25 Nov.09) is available here, together with a cover note from Government Office for the West Midlands.

In terms of background, the Assembly submitted the WMRSS Phase Two Revision Draft to the Secretary of State in December 2007, for more information please click here. An Examination in Public into the Draft Revision took place at the Molineux Stadium in Wolverhampton between April - June 2009. Further information about the EiP can be found on the PINS website.
