The West Midlands Region is home to 5.3 million people and is home to one of the most diverse populations outside of London. At its hearts lies the conurbation (Birmingham, the Black Country, Solihull and Coventry), with a population of 2.25 million and at the other extreme lies the rural and more remote areas of Shropshire and Herefordshire. These two extremes of 'urban settlements' and 'isolated communities' pose particular challenges for housing within the Region, which have been addressed.
Guidance notes on preparation and use of Sub Regional Housing Strategies in the West Midlands was endorsed by the Regional Housing Executive on Wednesday 1 July 2009. A published version of the Guidance will be uploaded shortly.
A report entitled 'Low Carbon Housing: developing a baseline for refurbishment in the West Midlands' was officially launched on Monday 23 March 2009 in Birmingham.
