Housing

The West Midlands Region is home to 5.3 million people and is home to one of the most diverse populations outside of London. At its hearts lies the conurbation (Birmingham, the Black Country, Solihull and Coventry), with a population of 2.25 million and at the other extreme lies the rural and more remote areas of Shropshire and Herefordshire. These two extremes of 'urban settlements' and 'isolated communities' pose particular challenges for housing within the Region, which have been addressed.

Guidance notes on preparation and use of Sub Regional Housing Strategies

It was agreed at the Regional Assembly Board meeting on 3 December 2008 that the Regional Housing Partnership, along with the Regional Planning Partnership and Regional Environment Partnership, would be replaced by a Strategic Advisory Panel. This Panel provides a wider forum for Housing, Planning, and Environment policy issues to be debated as and when required in order to inform the decisions of the Assembly Board.
