The Regional Technical Advisory Body (RTAB)

The Regional Technical Advisory Body (RTAB) for the West Midlands provides advice to the Regional Planning Body on the development and implementation of the Regional Waste Strategy. In undertaking this role RTAB:

  • considers national policy expectations and requirements;
  • considers and interprets national data as they apply to the region;
  • works with neighbouring regions to identify cross-regional issues;
  • receives and interprets data from local authorities in the region;
  • receives and interprets intelligence on local constraints to capacity development from waste planning authorities and other bodies, such as existing commitments and locational constraints;
  • reviews and appraises data and options at the strategic level;
  • advises on a regional waste management strategy for inclusion in the regional spatial strategy;
  • monitors the implementation of the regional waste strategy and provides an annual report for the regional planning body including recommendations as appropriate for changes to the strategy in the light of this monitoring;
